Welcome to the First Holy Communion preparation journey for the Mudgee Catholic Parishes cluster (St Mary of the Presentation, Mudgee, St John the Baptist, Gulgong, and St Dominic’s, Kandos / St Malachy’s, Rylstone).

We are delighted to walk alongside your family as your child takes this next significant step in their sacramental life. In the Eucharist, we receive the "source and summit" of our Christian faith—the true Body and Blood of Christ—and are nourished to live as missionary disciples in our community.

1. Is Your Child Ready?
First Holy Communion is typically celebrated by children in Year 3 or above.
Prerequisite: Candidates should have been baptised in the Catholic Church. (If your child has missed a sacrament along the way, please reach out to us so we can support your family's unique journey).
The Partnership: Preparing children for the Eucharist is a shared partnership between the family, the parish, and the school. While classroom learning provides foundational knowledge, the heart of preparation happens at home through family prayer, regular Sunday Mass attendance, and active participation in parish life.

2. Program Timeline (Terms 3 & 4: August – October)
Our preparation program runs annually during Terms 3 and 4. Key dates for the upcoming program include:
Early August: Parent Information & Registration Meetings (Two sessions available to accommodate family schedules).
August (Weekends): Commitment Masses across our parish churches, where candidates are formally presented to and embraced by our parish community.
August – October: Parish-supported family preparation and home-based online learning booklets and media.
October: Celebration of First Holy Communion Masses across the cluster.
